§§ Submissions Policy

The Florida Law Review requests that contributors comply with the following standards:

1. Submission Length. The Florida Law Review has no minimum or maximum page requirements for submissions. However, we strongly believe that the vast majority of law review articles can convey their arguments most effectively in no more than 70 journal pages (approximately 35,000 words–including footnotes). Authors who target the length of their submissions to meet this standard are more likely to be selected for publication than those who exceed it.

2. Submission Media. The Florida Law Review does not accept email attachment submissions and strongly prefers electronic submission through ExpressO (http://law.bepress.com/expresso/).  Please note that if you use ExpressO, the Florida Law Review will not send you a separate acknowledgement of receipt.  The only acknowledgement that your manuscript has been received will come from ExpressO.  Though we strongly prefer electronic submissions, the Florida Law Review does accept paper submissions.  Please send paper submissions to the following address:

3. Submission Format. Please format your manuscript with double-spaced body text and footnotes rather than endnotes. Citations should conform to the 18th edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation.

4. Contributor Information. In addition to your manuscript, please provide a cover letter and curriculum vitae that include the following:

a. a short synopsis of your manuscript;
b. a return mailing address;
c. a telephone number;
d. an email address; and
e. a short list of your recently published scholarly work.

We prefer to communicate with contributors via e-mail at floridalawreview@gmail.com.

5. Submission Status. We will email authors an acknowledgment that their paper submissions have been received by the Articles office. After completion of the review process, we will contact the author regarding the manuscript’s final status. Normally, we inform contributors of the status of their manuscript only at these two times. As a matter of policy, we do not discuss the reasons for our publication decisions. Unfortunately, we are unable to return manuscripts after consideration.

6. Requests for Expedited Review. The Florida Law Review carefully considers all manuscripts that we receive. However, our submission process has many steps and may require four to six weeks to complete fully. If you require expedited review of your manuscript because you have a pending offer from another journal, please contact us immediately by e-mail or telephone (352-273-0678). Please provide the following information: (1) the manuscript’s title, (2) the date when you need an answer, and (3) your e-mail address and telephone number. Although we will make every effort to honor requests for an expedited review, we will not omit any stage of our review process.

7. Prior Publication of Submissions. Although we encourage contributors to concurrently submit their articles to multiple journals, we will not consider manuscripts that are published or under contract to be published in another journal. As a matter of policy, we consider manuscripts available on the internet or through other alternative media outlets as published.

8. Submission Dates. We accept submissions on a “rolling” basis through the calendar year and strongly encourage contributors to submit manuscripts as soon as the manuscripts are ready.  Please note that, due to student unavailability, we do not review paper submissions between April 15th and August 15th.  We will begin reviewing all paper submissions received during this period on August 15th.

Thank you for your interest in the Florida Law Review.
